ON MUSIC, by WALTER SAVAGE LANDOR Poet Analysis Poet's Biography First Line: Many love music but for music's sake Last Line: A spark of life hath glisten'd and hath gone. Subject(s): Music & Musicians | ||||||||
MANY love music but for music's sake; Many because her touches can awake Thoughts that repose within the breast half dead, And rise to follow where she loves to lead. What various feelings come from days gone by! What tears from far-off sources dim the eye! Few, when light fingers with sweet voices play, And melodies swell, pause, and melt away, Mind how at every touch, at every tone, A spark of life hath glisten'd and hath gone. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LINER NOTES TO AN IMAGINARY PLAYLIST by TERRANCE HAYES VARIATIONS: 13 by CONRAD AIKEN BELIEVE, BELIEVE by BOB KAUFMAN ROUND ABOUT MIDNIGHT by BOB KAUFMAN MUSIC by CHARLOTTE FISKE BATES THE POWER OF MUSIC by CHARLOTTE FISKE BATES A FIESOLAN IDYL by WALTER SAVAGE LANDOR |
