WINTER TREE, by
First Line: To leaves that crooned in sun and rain
Last Line: The flame about our feet.
Subject(s): Trees; Winter

To leaves that crooned in sun and rain,
Though wheat-waves kissed and browned,
Stole curling frost -- and scarlet pain --
And sleep upon the ground.

And we who loved the leaf-clad limbs
And found the green notes sweet,
Look on in grief while winter dims
The flame about our feet.
