OUT FROM A DREAM, by ELLA ALLISON First Line: Through the night a poet listened Last Line: In living words of light. Subject(s): Dreams; Poetry & Poets; Nightmares | ||||||||
Through the night a poet listened To voices he heard in a dream; They gave a song to the moonlight; To wind, a wailing theme. The eerie tones were mingled With noises of outer ways And the wistful undertoning Of all his happier days. As the echoes all had meaning For life in a busy town, That a poet may interpret, The dreamer wrote them down. And the pen was a sword of the spirit That put despair to flight And pointed a way, resplendent, In living words of light. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VARIATIONS: 14 by CONRAD AIKEN VARIATIONS: 18 by CONRAD AIKEN LIVE IT THROUGH by DAVID IGNATOW A DREAM OF GAMES by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE DREAM OF WAKING by RANDALL JARRELL APOLOGY FOR BAD DREAMS by ROBINSON JEFFERS |
