LIFE'S LITTLE DAY, by MARY BALL ARMSTRONG First Line: Over the misty hills at evening time Last Line: Coolness, and quiet, and a lonely cry. | ||||||||
Over the misty hills at evening-time, In level light, a golden stillness falls; Out of the reeds beside the sleeping stream Tremulous, faint, a wandering night-bird calls. The flaming red of morning led to this; Ended in this, the threatening, stormy sky; It was for this, the long hours' heat and strife, Coolness, and quiet, and a lonely cry. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VERSES FROM THE GRANDE CHARTREUSE by MATTHEW ARNOLD A WINTER NIGHT by WILLIAM BARNES LACHIN Y GAIR by GEORGE GORDON BYRON MY BIRD by EMILY CHUBBUCK JUDSON SCILLA'S METAMORPHOSIS: MELANCHOLY by THOMAS LODGE ON THE MORNING OF CHRIST'S NATIVITY: THE HYMN by JOHN MILTON ON THE 'VITA NUOVA' OF DANTE by DANTE GABRIEL ROSSETTI SONNET WRITTEN IN THE FALL OF 1914: 3 by GEORGE EDWARD WOODBERRY |
