FRIEND, by MARJORIE DUGDALE ASHE First Line: How well the soul responds Last Line: Unto the greeting of its kin. Subject(s): Greetings | ||||||||
How well the soul responds With happy welcoming Unto the greeting of its kith and kind; Magnetic as the moon who draws the sea To her embrace, Soft as a feathered wing. She came to me, and in her face I saw God, and all men with faith in Him; She spoke, and in those tones All innocence and charity found voice; A presence seemed to walk before her form And greet me, saying, "Here am I, known to you always, And yet unknown!" I did not wonder whence or why, Only I knew a soul was here Who knew me well And called me silently; So, silently, I took her hand And smiled, and that was all, But well the soul responds Unto the greeting of its kin. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ON THE NEW YEAR by JANE BOWDLER TOWARDS DEMOCRACY: PART 2.
