THE STEAM-ENGINE: CANTO 10. ROSES ALL THE WAY, by T. BAKER First Line: At length the steam-chiefs with replenish'd force Last Line: May be inferr'd, since peel and brougham were there! Subject(s): Railroads; Railways; Trains | ||||||||
AT length the Steam-Chiefs with replenish'd force To Manchester pursued their pageant course; A grand reception there secure they found; And though acclaim still made the air resound, The blithe response was clogg'd with grief's alloy, The fate of Huskisson still chill'd their joy. The mutual greetings and the banquet o'er, The Steam-Chiefs, in procession as before, With equal pomp and eight-fold gorgeous train, Forthwith returned to Liverpool again: While still the eager crowds, we scarce need say, Their progress hail'd with plaudits all the way. Now in conclusion, 'twould be vain to tell, How high at Liverpool was rapture's swell! How rich the banquet and how choice the wines, Where thus in state the mighty Arthur dines! While eloquence, like the occasion, rare, May be inferr'd, since Peel and Brougham were there! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE RAILWAY by ARTHUR CHRISTOPHER BENSON WHAT WE DID TO WHAT WE WERE by PHILIP LEVINE BURYING GROUND BY THE TIES by ARCHIBALD MACLEISH WAY-STATION by ARCHIBALD MACLEISH TWILIGHT TRAIN by EILEEN MYLES THE CAVEMAN ON THE TRAIN by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS THE STEAM-ENGINE: CANTO 10.
