IN THE WHITE LAND, by KONSTANTIN DMITRIYEVICH BALMONT First Line: The candid psalm of silence rises whitely burning Last Line: A prayer, not suppliant, a psalm, not voiced, arise. Subject(s): Prayer | ||||||||
The candid psalm of Silence rises whitely burning, The icy wastes are lit with sunset's radiant yearning. The drowsy elements in yawning vistas freeze, And voiceless are the argent Polar liturgies. Above the sea of whiteness, crimson curtains falling; No fields or forests here, clear crystal shines appalling. White altars stretch beneath the changeless icy skies, A prayer, not suppliant, a psalm, not voiced, arise. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...UNHOLY SONNET 11 by MARK JARMAN LISTEN, LORD: A PRAYER by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON A PRAYER FOR THE FUTURE by GEORGE BARLOW (1847-1913) DIFFERENT WAYS TO PRAY by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE PRAYER DURING A TIME MY SON IS HAVING SEIZURES by SHARON OLDS WE WHO PRAYED AND WEPT by WENDELL BERRY PRAYERS AND SAYINGS OF THE MAD FARMER by WENDELL BERRY HYMN TO FIRE by KONSTANTIN DMITRIYEVICH BALMONT |
