Ill fated Flavia! left in blooming youth To weep forgotten vows and broken truth; Left, the keen pressure of distress to prove And all the pangs of ill requited love! Yet still she struggled thro with generous pride, Nor only bore her wrongs, but strove to hide; The griefs she could not quell, she scornd to own, And drew resources from herself alone. Her active mind above her fortunes rose, And smil'd superiour to a weight of woes. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...TOMORROW by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD THE RIGHTS OF WOMAN by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD WASHING-DAY by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD A SUMMER EVENING'S MEDITATION by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD HYMN: 2 by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD LIFE [AND DEATH] by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD ODE TO SPRING by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD ON THE EXPECTED GENERAL RISING OF THE FRENCH NATION IN 1792 by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD THE MOUSE'S PETITION TO DOCTOR PRIESTLY FOUND IN THE TRAP .. by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD THE SABBATH OF THE SOUL by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD TO A LITTLE INVISIBLE BEING WHO IS EXPECTED SOON TO BECOME VISIBLE by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD |
