VALUATION, by LOUISA SARAH BEVINGTON Poet's Biography First Line: Who shall tell the song its value Last Line: He will tell you if you love. Alternate Author Name(s): Leigh, Arbor; Guggenberger, Mrs. Ignatz; Bevington, L. S. Subject(s): Love | |||
WHO shall tell the song its value: Critic ear, or heart of friend? Who shall weigh your love's completeness? Who shall test the gold you spend? Not to critic take your poem, Not to mintsman take your gold, Not to idol take your worship, If its worth you would be told. Sing your music to the singer Would you be entirely heard; So your little tune be worthy, He will know it; take his word. Show your coin to any miser If its metal you would prove; Ask the heart of any lover, He will tell you if you love. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE INVENTION OF LOVE by MATTHEA HARVEY TWO VIEWS OF BUSON by ROBERT HASS A LOVE FOR FOUR VOICES: HOMAGE TO FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN by ANTHONY HECHT AN OFFERING FOR PATRICIA by ANTHONY HECHT LATE AFTERNOON: THE ONSLAUGHT OF LOVE by ANTHONY HECHT A SWEETENING ALL AROUND ME AS IT FALLS by JANE HIRSHFIELD EGOISME A DEUX' by LOUISA SARAH BEVINGTON |
