THE FOREST POOL, by GRACE BLAINE First Line: In a remote, green recess of the forest Last Line: Of nature's cup, the forest pool. Subject(s): Lakes; Pools; Ponds | ||||||||
In a remote, green recess of the forest, Lies a still, deep pool Whose emerald depths Mirror cloud shadows across the moon, Or prove an inland sea For fairy boats, the russet leaves Of a tall, proud oak. Wild eyes have looked into This selfsame pool. Soft, padded feet have paused Beside its depths Or perchance a deer whose dainty hoofs Have hither strayed, To quench her thirst just at the dawn, When still, gray shadows flee Before the coming day, Or in the deepest, midnight darkness She quietly stole here to refresh herself, From the deep, green depths Of Nature's cup, the forest pool. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A MAN GETS OFF WORK EARLY by THOMAS LUX THE FRIARY AT BLOSSOM, PROLOGUE & INSTRUCTIONS by NORMAN DUBIE SONGS FOR TWO SEASONS: 2.
