GIVE ME A CHANCE, by THOMAS T. BLEWETT First Line: Give me a chance to do my work Last Line: Give me a chance. Subject(s): Chance; Youth | ||||||||
Give me a chance to do my work Day in, day out; to grapple some Gigantic task the world has called Impossible; to reach beyond Myself, beyond the Universe Where Science is but a feeble name, And Truth is King. I am Youth. I want my chance. Why do you leer at me that way? You of the flabby legs and arms, You of the heavy jowls, and eyes That glitter at the sight of gold. And you of the gilded shoulder straps Secure among your maps, while I March to my death. I am Youth. I want my chance. You had your chance and failed; now I Want mine. You tried to fill my life With murder, lust; you traded Christ For Satan. I want Jesus back. You made me hate your enemies, And love your friends, while I would love All peoples on this spinning globe Which is my home. I am Youth. I want my chance. Give me a chance to think great thoughts, Paint great pictures, write great poems, Sing great songs, read great books. Just let me alone, that's all I ask. Give me a chance. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BETWEEN THE WARS by ROBERT HASS THE GOLDEN SHOVEL by TERRANCE HAYES ALONG WITH YOUTH by ERNEST HEMINGWAY THE BLACK RIVIERA by MARK JARMAN OLD THINGS by THOMAS T.
