THE CROSS TRIUMPHANT, by HARRY HOWE BOGERT First Line: Bow the head! For through the door Last Line: Th' holy cross is passing by. Subject(s): Victory | ||||||||
Bow the head! For through the door Comes the choir with cross on high, Bow the head in reverent awe, Th' sign of victory passeth by. Shining in the sombre light, Down the aisle the cross draws nigh. Bow the head! For in our sight More than the cross is passing by. Awful, agonizing prayer, Cup of woe, and bloody sweat, Bitter pain which none may share In the hour that cometh yet. Weary hours that drag along In the Judgment Hall of shame, Cruel mocking by the throng, Once a race of holy fame. Purple robe, and crown of thorn, Scoffing worship each one brings, All this patiently was borne By the gracious King of Kings. Dying on th' accursed tree, Rising, victor o'er the grave, Life and immortality To a sin-sick world, He gave. Sign of triumph, full, complete Over Satan, death, and sin, Saints and angels henceforth meet Where the Saviour enters in. Bow the head! Let all adore, And loyal hearts be lifted high. Bow the head in reverent awe, Th' Holy Cross is passing by. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...AN INSCRIPTION FOR DOG RIVER by KENNETH SLESSOR HOW WE BEAT THE FAVOURITE by ADAM LINDSAY GORDON OPPORTUNITY by EDWARD ROWLAND SILL THE GLORIOUS TOUCHDOWN by GEORGE ADE THE WINGLESS VICTORY by WILLIAM HERVEY ALLEN JR.
