DESERT WATERCOLOR, by RUBY BOWEN First Line: Green of the palo verde Last Line: With a misted mantle of desert stars. Subject(s): Deserts; Food & Eating | ||||||||
Green of the palo verde, Purple of distant peaks, Gold of a desert sunset, An artist's palette streaks. Flame of the ocotillo, Blue of the wind-swept sage, Blush of a desert's dawning, Grey of the twilight shades. An artist's model -- coyote Silhouetted 'gainst the stars Wild horses in mountain pastures Without a need of bars. Leap of a black-tailed rabbit, Venom of coiling snake, Dawn is a mesquite thicket As mating roadrunners wake. The desert artist pictures, But, ere night his canvas mars, Drapes His work in the coming dusk With a misted mantle of desert stars. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WAITRESSING IN THE ROOM WITH A THOUSAND MOONS by MATTHEA HARVEY CANDIED YAMS' by TERRANCE HAYES DINNER OF HERBS by LOUISE MOREY BOWMAN THE BANQUET SONG by KENNETH KOCH SPLITTING AN ORDER by TED KOOSER THE PRISONER OF CHILLON: INTRODUCTORY SONNET by GEORGE GORDON BYRON |
