ULYSSES, by BERTON BRALEY Poet's Biography First Line: Ulysses was a rover, a roamer and a rover Last Line: The way that old ulysses used to do. Subject(s): Mythology - Classical; Ulysses; Odysseus | ||||||||
Ulysses was a rover, a roamer and a rover Who sought for high adventure about the sounding sea, Who roistered and philandered and fought the wide world over, And lived a life tempestuous and free. Ulysses was a rover, a roamer and a rover, While I am but a stay-at-home with never chance to flee, But when I dream of wandering the wide world blithely over The spirit of Ulysses wakes in me. Ulysses was a rover, a roamer and a rover, And when my hopes are realized and all my dreams come true, I'll roister and philander and fight the wide world over The way that old Ulysses used to do. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CALYPSO'S ISLAND by ARCHIBALD MACLEISH THE SAIL OF ULYSSES by WALLACE STEVENS ULYSSES AND THE SIREN by SAMUEL DANIEL THE OLD SHIPS by JAMES ELROY FLECKER |
