Tiny little humming bird,
Inches three your length,
Brilliant is your ruby throat,
Giant is your strength.
Many miles you fly away
Over gulf and sea,
Only tiny gauzy wings
Your security.
Quivering in your wild delight,
Never sounding note,
Yet I've seen the color change
In that gem-like throat.
I've prepared a larkspur feast,
Served in cups of blue;
Will you taste my nectar rare?
Bees like it, too.
Tiny little humming bird,
Hurry not away!
Linger on the lilac bough,
I have time to stay.
