Beloved sea, fall gently on this land. Sprinkle the bay, reach not the delicate rose That perilously in the granite grows. Deliberate gulls, move through your saraband Upon this summer's wind, and every year. Run, eager boy, with slim oars to your boat. Lie, dreaming girl, the sun upon your throat. Blown bright-frocked women, crowd upon the pier. Gather the uncoined silver from your seine And pass in the lilac evening to your beach, Saying goodnight in your soft plaintive speech, You quiet fishers of the flawless main. Reiterate, O country of my heart Your loveliness long after I depart. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HALL OF OCEAN LIFE by JOHN HOLLANDER JULY FOURTH BY THE OCEAN by ROBINSON JEFFERS BOATS IN A FOG by ROBINSON JEFFERS CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE FIGUREHEAD by LEONIE ADAMS AMELIA EARHART by HELEN BRYANT |
