THE SUPREME GIFT, by DAISY DEAN BUTLER First Line: A singer with eyes on the star lighted heavens Last Line: And giving herself, she gave all. Subject(s): Angels; Children - Lost; Heaven; Love; Paradise | ||||||||
A singer with eyes on the star lighted heavens Sang joyously, wondrously sweet; She saw only heigths by the angels attained Not the children of earth at her feet. She sang to the stars, to the angels of God; Her song voiced her longings, her love; She saw not the shadows of pain on the earth She saw only glories above. But once as she sang to the stars up on high, Her ear caught an earth-sound of pain; A little, lost child's bitter weeping she heard; She ceased her songlistened again. And turning her eyes from her much loved heights, In pity she gave of her love To succor the helpless, the suffering of earth, Her vision, God-sent from above. Her song to the angels, she sang as of yore, With her ear tuned to earth sorrows' call; She gave song and service of love to mankind And giving herself, she gave all. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE END OF LIFE by PHILIP JAMES BAILEY SEVEN TWILIGHTS: 6 by CONRAD AIKEN THE BOOK OF THE DEAD MAN (#19): 2.
