MY LAD, by FAY H. BUTLER First Line: I know a lad, a sailor free Last Line: From happy morn till drowsy eve. Subject(s): Children; Mothers & Sons; Childhood | ||||||||
I know a lad, a sailor free, Whose good ship drifts right merrily To seek a vast and distant land, With every fate at his command. I know a lad, a warrior bold, Who conquers every foe foretold; Like leaves beneath the whirlwind's sway, The baffled enemy flee away. I know a lad, a builder grand, Who shapes fine castles out of sand, With moats and bridges, turrets high, And gardens that delight the eye. All these pursuits and many more Employ my busy lad of four, Who lives in realms of make-believe From happy morn till drowsy eve. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE THREE CHILDREN by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN CHILDREN SELECTING BOOKS IN A LIBRARY by RANDALL JARRELL COME TO THE STONE ... by RANDALL JARRELL THE LOST WORLD by RANDALL JARRELL A SICK CHILD by RANDALL JARRELL CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS ON THE DEATH OF FRIENDS IN CHILDHOOD by DONALD JUSTICE THE POET AT SEVEN by DONALD JUSTICE A TIME TO DANCE by CECIL DAY LEWIS WAITER IN A CALIFORNIA VIETNAMESE RESTURANT by CLARENCE MAJOR |
