A LITTLE WRINKLED SOUL OF LOVELINESS, by WILLIAM BYRON CHARLES First Line: She was a little wrinkled soul of loveliness Last Line: In youth or age it but reflects the inner self. Subject(s): Soul | ||||||||
She was a little wrinkled soul of loveliness, If souls of earth inhabit bodies of their size: (Souls which were never crumpled by the ugliness Of life, may not recapture beauty when she flies). This soul drew lucid rays, convergent in her face, Disclosing concentrated goodness of her sires, Reflecting out beyond position, pride and place, The coals of character at white heat in the fires. Disarming judgment in evaluating man, Critic of beauty, she was beauty's aged elf: Beauty like a new polished gem, is lovely when In youth or age it but reflects the inner self. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE CRUEL FALCON by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE WHOLE SOUL by PHILIP LEVINE I KNOW MY SOUL by CLAUDE MCKAY HONORING THE SAND; IN MEMORY OF JOSEPH CAMPBELL by ROBERT BLY THE CHINESE PEAKS; FOR DONALD HALL by ROBERT BLY THE LIFE OF TOWNS: TOWN OF THE EXHUMATION by ANNE CARSON |
