I've learned a precious secret,
I would that all might know,
That only in the cross of Christ
Is found the balm for woe.
For when I bear it as I should,
I find it beareth me;
I throw me on its gracious arms,
And lose my misery.
O Cross! sweet Cross of Jesus!
I'll sing thy praise abroad,
Till others learn to love thee too
And thus return to God.
