NATURE GIFTS, by EFFIE CLOUSE First Line: Mother says, 'get up, jack' Last Line: "all my burdens grow more light." Subject(s): Courage; Pleasure; Valor; Bravery | ||||||||
Mother says, "Get up, Jack, For the pleasures you have missed. Flowers are anodding so For the dew drops they have kissed. "With a practiced eye I see Gold, red, blue suffuse the sky, Just a veil of harmony Through the sun that's shining high. "Weak and trembling for the day This a courage gives once more So I brush the tears away Leave the sunbeams through my door, "Which is open wide to stay And the room is full of light. In this mist of ecstasy All my burdens grow more light." | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...UNLESS IT WAS COURAGE by MARVIN BELL THE QUALITY OF COURAGE by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET ON THE OREGON COAST; FOR WILLIAM STAFFORD by ROBERT BLY WORDS WITH WALLACE STEVENS by ROBERT BLY BUFFALO CLOUDS OVER THE MAESTRO HOON by NORMAN DUBIE A SONG OF COURAGE by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON THE AUDACIOUS by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON OH, THE WATER by DORIANNE LAUX |
