PATTERNS IN OUR HEARTS, by KATHRYNE COLE First Line: Purple evenings and gray dawns Last Line: Traced their patterns in our hearts. Subject(s): Evening; Sunset; Twilight | ||||||||
Purple evenings and gray dawns Have traced patterns in our hearts. Evenings when the earth is wet We have dreamed beside a fire, Dreamed of yesterdays -- and yet -- We have looked ahead and higher; Hoping -- lest the fading day Close our eyes to purple light, Lest it steal away the magic Of the evening -- leaving night. Gray dawns when the world is still We have known and forgotten a sorrow, Hardly a scar is left of the ill, And it will vanish tomorrow; Fade like the shadows of dawn on the hill When thoughts of the future sing, Deep in our hearts, our dreams and our wills And we can but remember the spring; When purple evenings and gray dawns Traced their patterns in our hearts. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...JOURNEY INTO THE EYE by DAVID LEHMAN FEBRUARY EVENING IN NEW YORK by DENISE LEVERTOV THE HOUSE OF DUST: 1 by CONRAD AIKEN TWILIGHT COMES by HAYDEN CARRUTH IN THE EVENINGS by LUCILLE CLIFTON NINETEEN FORTY by NORMAN DUBIE HIS CONTENT IN THE COUNTRY by ROBERT HERRICK |
