LAGO MAGGIORE, by THOMAS COLE (1801-1848) First Line: O sky and earth! How ye are linked together Last Line: And all the glory of the landscape dies. Subject(s): Maggiore, Lake | ||||||||
O sky & earth! How ye are linked together Upon the bosom of this gentle lake; The wild & wandering breeze is doubtful whether It may your calm & sweet communion break. 'Tis thus within my silent bosom mingle The memory of distant scenes -- my home And these enchanting prospects; whilst I, single And silently in pensive thought do roam. The distant & the present sometimes meet In dream-like hues; but dark thoughts quickly rise And mar the mirror of the vision sweet, And truth oerwhelmeth with a sad surprise; 'Twixt me & those I love an ocean lies And all the glory of the landscape dies. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LINES SUGGESTED BY HEARING MUSIC ON THE BOSTON COMMON by THOMAS COLE (1801-1848) THE DIAL by THOMAS COLE (1801-1848) LOOKING DOWNWARDS by LOUISA SARAH BEVINGTON THE TWO COMETS by JOHN GARDINER CALKINS BRAINARD ON CITY STREETS by MARGARET E.
