TO A CHINESE BRIDE, by
First Line: You are the shadow of tall bamboo
Last Line: I await your palanquin by the wall of the blue pagoda.
Subject(s): Brides; China

You are the shadow of tall bamboo.
Your mouth is the vermilion of ripe melons,
And your skin is the cream of nodding chrysanthemums,
Smooth to the touch as the feel of jade.
Your laughter is the tinkle of wind bells
When the east wind bows the rice fields.
My thirst is slaked by the silver waters of your affection.
More satisfying to the soul than orisons at dawn
Is the contemplation of your august beauty.
Delay not your coming, oh perfume of flowers,
That we may offer fitting homage to our ancestors.
I await your palanquin by the wall of the blue pagoda.
