PRICELESS GIFTS, by OLIVE MAY COOK First Line: I found silver today in the cadence and trill Last Line: Of that gay little song of the whippoorwill. Subject(s): Birds; Whipporwills | ||||||||
I found silver today in the cadence and trill Of the gay little song of the whippoorwill, And gold at the edge of the crimsoned west In a sea of clouds as the sun dipped to rest. Turqouise and rubies, amethyst, jade, I found in the setting that God had made, On hillside, in valleys, all summer they grow, In winter kept safe in a casket of snow. Diamonds and pearls I had lost for a while I found today in the flash of your smile -- So my heart is answering the cadence and thrill Of that gay little song of the whippoorwill. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A WHIPPOORWILL IN THE WOODS by AMY CLAMPITT THE WHIPPOORWILL'S SONG by ELIZABETH COX GILLILAND AT THE TOUCH OF A BIRD by LILLIAN IONE OLSEN SONGS TO A.H.R.: 10.
