OUT OF THE SHADOWS: AN UNFINISHED SONNET-SEQUENCE 8, by JOSEPH SEAMON COTTER JR. First Line: When this gay earth whelmed with a mad desire Last Line: Clad in the glory that is one with thee. Subject(s): Desire | ||||||||
When this gay earth whelmed with a mad desire Swung out of chaos in a nebulous form, God borned a passion tinged with heavenly fire And wreathed about with many an ancient charm. Garbed in the beauty of the vaulted skies, To primal calm the passion burned its way, When man was young and earth was Eden-wise, And life the music of a golden day. Down from the ages over hungered souls And love-lorn hearts its flaming breath is spread, Searing with crimson life's eternal scrolls, Warming the spirit when the flesh is dead. Crowned with the years the passion comes to me, Clad in the glory that is one with thee. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...AMERICAN WEDDING by ESSEX HEMPHILL HISTORY OF DESIRE by TONY HOAGLAND ARISTOTLE TO PHYLLIS by JOHN HOLLANDER AND WHAT SHALL YOU SAY? by JOSEPH SEAMON COTTER JR. |
