FROM MOUNTAIN-SLOPES, by NELLIE I. CRABB First Line: I climb through terraced gardens, see below Last Line: Demand that love prepare their day of peace. Subject(s): Mountains; Sonnet (as Literary Form); Hills; Downs (great Britain) | ||||||||
I climb through terraced gardens, see below A turquoise, crescent-shaped, with pearly wedge. Across the valley, clouds caress the edge Where flowers that cling to higher levels, grow. A spring, new-born of gentle Mother Snow, Now fills my cup -- I drink a solemn pledge To help erase the human sacrilege That hides creation's glory, dims its glow. Where thirsty millions pace the ugly streets; Where beauty-loving thousands go unfed And overburdened children need release, I bring the greetings sent from far retreats For every mountain slope and river-bed Demand that love prepare their day of peace. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CALIFORNIA SORROW: MOUNTAIN VIEW by MARY KINZIE CONTRA MORTEM: THE MOUNTAIN FASTNESS by HAYDEN CARRUTH GREEN MOUNTAIN IDYL by HAYDEN CARRUTH IF IT WERE NOT FOR YOU by HAYDEN CARRUTH OLD COUNTRY ROADS by NELLIE I.
