IMPASSE, by
First Line: A thought evolved within my mind
Last Line: What holds us captive where we are.
Subject(s): Thought; Thinking

A thought evolved within my mind:
It was a swift, elusive thing
Scarce stirred until, on beating wing,
It sped before me like the wind.

It changed its coat, its color, too,
And when it reached the farthest post
Was changed from substance to a ghost
Before it vanished from my view.

When thoughts have been pursued as far
As power of mind can follow them,
Then are we eager to condemn
What holds us captive where we are.
