TO ONE WHO NEVER KNEW I CARED, by ELSIE THOMAS CULVER First Line: I wonder what it was that made me say Last Line: And hear you chafe about my woman's club! Subject(s): Love - Loss Of; Relationships; Youth | ||||||||
I wonder what it was that made me say "Good-by," and leave you, dear, that fateful day. How could I stay away, nor even write, Loving you all the while the way I did? Instinct, perhaps. I was too young to know That only if I left you so, I'd keep The you that I had known, beside me, dear, Glorious and beautiful, through all these lengthening years. Instinct, my husband says, guides womenfolk, Where sense and reason, masculine 'tributes, fail. I couldn't bear to know you fat and bald, And hear you chafe about my woman's club! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BETWEEN THE WARS by ROBERT HASS THE GOLDEN SHOVEL by TERRANCE HAYES ALONG WITH YOUTH by ERNEST HEMINGWAY |
