There was a poet once who died,
His casement opened wide;
With his two hands he clasped his book,
And died with his last look
Fixed on the brightest star –
How great some poets are!
I too have my ambitious end,
With one green leaf in either hand –
And save the small breast-feather
Of a little bird for the other!
