NO CARELESS MIND, by WILLIAM HENRY DAVIES Poet Analysis First Line: A granted joy can make a careless mind Last Line: A seed of light throw up a magic flower! Alternate Author Name(s): Davies, W. H. Subject(s): Happiness; Joy; Delight | ||||||||
A granted joy can make a careless mind, To take or leave at any hour I choose; Yet every wind that blows has its own song, And sings a music that I dare not lose; While every tree that grows in field or wood Has qualities that change, like flesh and blood. The Sun comes out and like a dog am I, That starts a scent that's new to him and strange, And where it burns I follow till it dies; The stars at night, whose beauty knows no change, Still lead my hopes to see, at any hour, A seed of light throw up a magic flower! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE STUDY OF HAPPINESS by KENNETH KOCH SO MUCH HAPPINESS by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE CROWD CONDITIONS by JOHN ASHBERY I WILL NOT BE CLAIMED by MARVIN BELL THE BOOK OF THE DEAD MAN (#21): 1.
