TO SPARROWS FIGHTING, by WILLIAM HENRY DAVIES Poet Analysis First Line: Stop, feathered bullies! Last Line: Of anger, like the great. Alternate Author Name(s): Davies, W. H. Subject(s): Sparrows | ||||||||
Stop, feathered bullies! Peace, angry birds; You common Sparrows that, For a few words, Roll fighting in wet mud, To shed each other's blood. Look at those Linnets, they Like ladies sing; See how those Swallows, too, Play on the wing; All other birds close by Are gentle, clean and shy. And yet maybe your life's As sweet as theirs; The common poor that fight Live not for years In one long frozen state Of anger, like the great. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HOUSE SPARROWS by ANTHONY HECHT FIFTH GROUP OF VERSE: 9.
