INTERLUDE, by FRANCES MARCH DAVY First Line: How do I know that you will love me still Last Line: When autumn gilds our spring-resplendent hill! | |||
How do I know that you will love me still When Autumn lays aside her Joseph's coat As now, with Spring resplendent on this hill That echoes with the lark's first raptured note? How do I know that all this magic song That courses through our veins like heady wine Will not become a dirge? For it is long From Spring to Fall -- without some lover's sign. But this I know: you will not give, nor stay. For you are one who very soon will part -- A vagabond who goes another way, And leaves me here with only half a heart.
