VILLANELLE OF VIOLETS, by THERESSA M. DEFOSSET First Line: My flower shall be the violet Last Line: I make my choice with no regret. Subject(s): Flowers; Violets | ||||||||
My flower shall be the violet; Though other blooms are sweet and fair, I make my choice with no regret. At twilight, when the sun is set, And myriad perfumes fill the air, My flower shall be the violet. While Night-Wind plays his clarinet For dew-drenched blossoms, everywhere, I make my choice with no regret. I love the crimson rose, and yet It cannot with my choice compare... My flower shall be the violet. Old fashioned, like the minuet, It holds a subtle charm, yet rare; I make my choice with no regret. Some day when worries cease to fret And gardens lure me...from all care, My flower shall be the violet, I make my choice with no regret. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HEAVY VIOLETS by BARBARA GUEST THE YELLOW VIOLET by WILLIAM CULLEN BRYANT WAR IS KIND: 23 by STEPHEN CRANE SONNET by ALICE RUTH MOORE DUNBAR-NELSON HOW VIOLETS CAME BLUE by ROBERT HERRICK UNDER THE VIOLETS by OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES |
