SWEET BLOOMS AT DUSK, by JAMES H. DEVLIN First Line: Oft wet with tears on haloed ground Last Line: Forgotten soon and death its goal. Subject(s): Death; Dusk; Grief; Tears; Dead, The; Sorrow; Sadness | ||||||||
Oft wet with tears on haloed ground Where love and sorrow's treasure grew, Like saintly things would be, I found The fullest measure beauty knew. To one whom nature has appealed, Whom beauty giveth keen delight, There on a grave was love revealed In blossoms sweet at dusk of night. Ah, this was peace, all troubles eased: 'Tis loveliness like this that brings The gripping thought with which I'm seized. You, God, alone, could make such things. A contrast shown in blossoms fresh, The beauty infinite of soul, The fleeting glamor of the flesh Forgotten soon and death its goal. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SONOMA FIRE by JANE HIRSHFIELD AS THE SPARKS FLY UPWARDS by JOHN HOLLANDER WHAT GREAT GRIEF HAS MADE THE EMPRESS MUTE by JUNE JORDAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 19 by JAMES JOYCE |
