I TOO HATE WAR, by IDA FLOOD DODGE Last Line: "more deadly far than death. I too ""hate war." Subject(s): Discontent; Hate; Dissatisfaction | ||||||||
I too "hate war," for I have understood The sacredness of life. I know unrest Of burdened days, then travail, and the blest Content that follows throes of motherhood. I too "hate war," for I have known glad youth, Their eager, restless, hopeful hearts; each year I see them in each changing class appear, The while I guide them in the ways of truth. I pray that not again our land may see A world made mad . . . that disillusionment From carnage and from chaos never more May hold us with a pall of atrophy, Of frenzied calm, satiric discontent More deadly far than death. I too "hate war." | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...RUNNING AWAY FROM HOME by CAROLYN KIZER ALMOST, NEVER by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE TIRADE FOR THE NEXT-TO-LAST ACT (VERSION A) by NINA CASSIAN MORTAL COMBAT by MARY ELIZABETH COLERIDGE ON MONSIEUR'S DEPARTURE by ELIZABETH I |
