So still to die? Forever be at rest? -- There's no unending peace, or clay that binds; But, eager, you and I, as rushing winds Shall roam the lovely world in ceaseless quest. So cold to die? -- Of coldness there is none. Forever, wrapped in Godlike, warming rays, We'll move across the eternal pregnant days -- Part of the world's resplendent, blazing sun. So sad to die? -- From out our longing breast Bird songs will rise in never-ending glee And joy the hearts of others such as we, And beautify the world. -- And this is best! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A FRIEND KILLED IN THE WAR by ANTHONY HECHT FOR JAMES MERRILL: AN ADIEU by ANTHONY HECHT TARANTULA: OR THE DANCE OF DEATH by ANTHONY HECHT CHAMPS D?ÇÖHONNEUR by ERNEST HEMINGWAY NOTE TO REALITY by TONY HOAGLAND A DISCRETE LOVE POEM by JAMES GALVIN |
