EVENING - MOUNTAINS, by THEODORE DREISER First Line: The shadowy hills Last Line: The poem of a star. Subject(s): Mountains; Nature; Hills; Downs (great Britain) | ||||||||
The shadowy hills Aloud chant together In audible crimson The high-born peaks Gleaming in the mournful redness Of that madman's eye -- The sun -- Declare their defiance Of their loneliness. And about them, In the steely desert of the sky Wander cloud camels, Red, Slow, And In the valleys below Under a twilight spell. The earth itself Enchanted Rests. And now Some secret poet of the soul, Find this winding stream all black, Flings upon it bosom The poem of a star. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CALIFORNIA SORROW: MOUNTAIN VIEW by MARY KINZIE CONTRA MORTEM: THE MOUNTAIN FASTNESS by HAYDEN CARRUTH GREEN MOUNTAIN IDYL by HAYDEN CARRUTH IF IT WERE NOT FOR YOU by HAYDEN CARRUTH MIDSUMMER FROST (1) by ISAAC ROSENBERG WRITTEN FOR MY SON, AND SPOKEN BY HIM AT HIS FIRST PUTTING ON BREECHES by MARY BARBER |
