Each meal should be a sacramental feast, -- A Eucharist each breaking of the bread, Wherein we meet again our Great High Priest, And pledge new troth to our exalted Head. For all we eat doth come of sacrifice, -- Life out of Death, -- since all we eat must yield Life for our living, -- and yet, nothing dies, But in its giving finds its life fulfilled. The wheat, the plant, the beast, and man, all give, Each of their best, God's purpose to maintain, And all subserve the end for which all live, And pass, -- to live more worthily again. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MYSTIC BOUNCE by TERRANCE HAYES MATHEMATICS CONSIDERED AS A VICE by ANTHONY HECHT UNHOLY SONNET 11 by MARK JARMAN SHINE, PERISHING REPUBLIC by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE COMING OF THE PLAGUE by WELDON KEES A LITHUANIAN ELEGY by ROBERT KELLY A NEW EARTH by WILLIAM ARTHUR DUNKERLEY |
