"WHO'LL take care of the baby?" Says Joe to Sam, in fierce debate Upon the woman question; "You've answered well all other points, Now here's my last suggestion: When woman goes to cast her vote, -- Some miles away, it may be, -- Who, then, I ask, will stay at home To rock and tend the baby?" Quoth Sam: "I own you've made my case Appear a little breezy; I hoped you'd pass this question by, And give me something easy. But since the matter seems to turn On this one as its axis, Just get the one who rocked it when She went to pay her taxes!" | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE THREE CHILDREN by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN CHILDREN SELECTING BOOKS IN A LIBRARY by RANDALL JARRELL COME TO THE STONE ... by RANDALL JARRELL THE LOST WORLD by RANDALL JARRELL A SICK CHILD by RANDALL JARRELL CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS ON THE DEATH OF FRIENDS IN CHILDHOOD by DONALD JUSTICE THE POET AT SEVEN by DONALD JUSTICE |
