THE GLORY OF THE SUN, by OLIVER MURRAY EDWARDS First Line: A little crocus woke from sleep Last Line: It waits the sun above. Subject(s): Easter; Holidays; Sun; The Resurrection | ||||||||
A little crocus woke from sleep In earthy bed below, With faith and hope it raised its head And broke through earth and snow. It saw the dawn of Easter Day, The blue of Heaven above, The glory of the risen sun, And felt the warmth of love. 'Twas in its purity the flower Did earthiness transcend, For in such perfect loveliness Doth earth with Heaven blend; And though its life was but an hour It lived to tell its love, Then fell asleep where, in its bed, It waits the sun above. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...EASTER EVE by FRANCIS WILLIAM BOURDILLON EASTER SUNDAY by LUCILLE CLIFTON GOD SEND EASTER by LUCILLE CLIFTON NOT THE CUCKOLD'S DREAM; FOR SAM PEREIRA by NORMAN DUBIE EASTER HYMN by GEORGE SANTAYANA I DEFINE THE DARKNESS CORRECT: THE FESTIVAL OF THE FRERES LUMIERES by ELENI SIKELIANOS SPANISH EASTER: 1926 by CONRAD AIKEN A CHRISTMAS CAROL AND ANTHEM by OLIVER MURRAY EDWARDS |
