A NEW DENOMINATION, by                     Poet's Biography
First Line: Phoebe has lived a life of schism
Last Line: "a plymouth brother or a yarmouth bloater?"
Alternate Author Name(s): Egerton-warburton, R. E.
Subject(s): Conversion; Gossip

PHŒBE has lived a life of schism,
Been every "ite," tried every "ism;"
Where rings the peal of pulpit thunder
Which she in turn has not sat under?
Each change of wind gives fresh occasion
For shifting to a new persuasion;
While wondering gossips, o'er their tea,
Each other ask, "What will she be,
When next the Times shall as a convert quote her?—
A Plymouth Brother or a Yarmouth Bloater?"
