FROM DAWNING TILL DAWNING, by JENNIE EMERY First Line: I wish that I could see once more Last Line: All earthly duties done at last. Subject(s): Home; Past | ||||||||
I wish that I could see once more And see with childish vision keen The country road that lay between The schoolhouse and my old home door. But when in truth I pass that way Where once abode perennial May, The dull gray dust lies thick alway On grass and flower and leafy spray. The old house too has lost its lure, For mother isn't in the door And father plows the fields no more, Only the old time loves endure. But love is first and love is last And love shall greet us on yon shore And guide us to the friends of yore, All earthly duties done at last. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...FERGUS FALLING by GALWAY KINNELL A TIME PAST by DENISE LEVERTOV LAST THINGS by WILLIAM MEREDITH CHRISTMAS TREE by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS THIS MORNING, GOD by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR |
