SUNSET, by MARIE ESTLIN First Line: To know the magic spell of skies and sands Last Line: Entranced to linger thus, perchance to dream. Subject(s): Evening; Sunset; Twilight | ||||||||
To know the magic spell of skies and sands As oblique rays of evening's sinking sun Reach out to paint the drifting clouds, each one In radiant colors, while crystal sands Stretch out toward the sea like pale white hands. The iridescent waters leaping run As if to catch the disappearing sun, Slipping below the earth to distant lands. The darkening shadows of the red-gold light Shed Favonian lustre on the scene, The rippling waters fill the balmy night With never-ceasing music, while the gleam Of mystic lights from far-off ships we sight; Entranced to linger thus, perchance to dream. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...JOURNEY INTO THE EYE by DAVID LEHMAN FEBRUARY EVENING IN NEW YORK by DENISE LEVERTOV THE HOUSE OF DUST: 1 by CONRAD AIKEN TWILIGHT COMES by HAYDEN CARRUTH IN THE EVENINGS by LUCILLE CLIFTON NINETEEN FORTY by NORMAN DUBIE THE AWAKENING RIVER by KATHERINE MANSFIELD DOMESDAY BOOK: CONSIDER FREELAND by EDGAR LEE MASTERS SONNETS FROM THE PORTUGUESE: 4 by ELIZABETH BARRETT BROWNING |
