SUBLIMITY, by LUCIUS MATLACK FALL First Line: I climb the majestic mountain to its summit Last Line: "and the firmament showeth his handiwork." Subject(s): Universe | ||||||||
I climb the majestic mountain to its summit. There I stand rapt in wonderment At the beauty and splendor of the cerulean sky While cumulus and cirrus clouds gambol at my feet. I turn toward the setting sun And watch her robe of crimson luster Drop behind the western slope. Soon the low hanging duplicate horn Moon, Venus, Orion, the Pleiades and Milky Way Dot the dome of heaven with diamond gems. Enthralled by such enchanting beauty We exclaim with the Psalmist of old: "The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament showeth his handiwork." | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HYMN TO THE STARS by GEORGE LAWRENCE ANDREWS CONCLUSION by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS AN ELEGY FOR THE PAST by MARVIN BELL BOOK OF TRIBUTES: COSMORAMA by ELENI SIKELIANOS I WILL SING YOU ONE-O by ROBERT FROST ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE by ROBERT FROST SILENCE by LUCIUS MATLACK FALL |
