THE AMERICAN FLAG, by LENA E. FAULDS First Line: Lift it high, our glorious banner Last Line: Be of happiness and peace! Subject(s): Flags - United States; American Flag | ||||||||
LIFT it high, our glorious banner; Let it wave upon the breeze; Freedom's starry emblem ever, Lift it high o'er land and seas. Many conflicts it has witnessed, Many stories it could tell Of the brave who fought around it, Of the brave who 'neath it fell. Scenes of woe and desolation, Scenes of joy o'er vic'tries won; Scenes of rest and peaceful union; Freedom now for every one. Life the flag, then, high above us, May it wave till time shall cease, And its record for the future, Be of happiness and peace! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE FLAG GOES BY by HENRY HOLCOMB BENNETT THE AMERICAN FLAG by JOSEPH RODMAN DRAKE THE CALL TO THE COLORS by ARTHUR GUITERMAN BETSY'S BATTLE FLAG by MINNA IRVING THE BONNIE BLUE FLAG by ANNIE CHAMBERS KETCHUM THE STAR-SPANGLED BANNER by FRANCIS SCOTT KEY THE CONQUERED BANNER by ABRAM JOSEPH RYAN FANCIES AT NAVESINK: 6 by WALT WHITMAN A GIRL'S THOUGHTS by ISAAC ROSENBERG THE KING OF SPAIN by MAXWELL BODENHEIM A POET'S FANCIES: 8.
