REASON DETHRONED, by BETTY ANN FEINEMAN First Line: The mangled form beneath the arc-light's glow Last Line: Crescendoing from ache of pinioned wings. Subject(s): Violence | ||||||||
The mangled form beneath the arc-light's glow Has ceased to pray. Uncomprehending, dumb, The mob disbands and questions not the numb Yet violent urge that causes blood to flow. They shuffle off -- the human undertow Of driving, brooding, restless men that come And go amid the stone-ribbed streets and thrum Of great machines that shuttle to and fro. The sins of ignorance cloud their dreams, pervade Their huddled homes. Their toil and pain and long Lean years are taut Lilliputian strings That bind their hearts to earth. The mad parade Of complex days goes on with muffled song Crescendoing from ache of pinioned wings. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...UNYIELDINGLY PRESENT by LAWRENCE JOSEPH LOOKING FOR OMAR by E.
