Janvier of Ebon barb and mighty frame Who lived up to the pen name "Iv'ry Black," Yet dwelt he in no tower of ivory. For years he visited Provence and knew Mistral and Felix Gras. I found him once In Avignon, and then in Mexico. And once at sea the dolphins sank our boat And only one escaped: the canny cook Who in the crow's nest sat to cool his broth. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE CELL, SELECTION by LYN HEJINIAN OXOTA: A SHORT RUSSIAN NOVEL: CHAPTER 126: THE DOUBTING MAN by LYN HEJINIAN WAKING THE MORNING DREAMLESS AFTER LONG SLEEP by JANE HIRSHFIELD COMPULSIVE QUALIFICATIONS by RICHARD HOWARD DEUTSCH DURCH FREUD by RANDALL JARRELL LET THEM ALONE by ROBINSON JEFFERS ON BUILDING WITH STONE by ROBINSON JEFFERS CHARLES DUDLEY WARNER by JOHN HUSTON FINLEY |
