SEPTEMBER, by
First Line: A robin sang as lustily today
Last Line: April's sun and shower in september?
Subject(s): Autumn; Seasons; Spring; Fall

A robin sang as lustily today
As when the sun careers on April skies.
A flicker too was chattering away
As though about a housing enterprise.
An oriole piped a wooing note and flashed
A brilliant wing. A goldfinch warbled loud
As though the earth unwittingly had dashed
Into Springtime even under cloud
Of Autumn. See they sumach, goldenrod,
Apple orchards bending to the sod,
Flaming ash and silken gossamer
With keener eyes, eyes strangely happier
For momentary pausing to remember
April's sun and shower in September?
