DO YOU KNOW?, by GRACE BROWN FRINK First Line: About ten or fifteen years ago Last Line: Then honestly and frankly tell them so. Subject(s): Humility; Knowledge | ||||||||
About ten or fifteen years ago, Or thereabouts, more or less or so, It was surprising how much I knew About the way other folks should do. I knew just how Mrs. Z. could make Fancywork that would take the cake; Though Mrs. Z's swollen hands Were held in rheumatism's bands. I could, also, almost tell Where my neighbor should have his well; Why, anyone with half a brain Would put it between the barn and drain. When Mr. Skinner's dog was dead, Hit by a car and lost his head, I could have told him what to do; Yes, indeed, sue, man, sue. Now I surely know much more Than I ever did before, Yet when someone wants to know About this or that, and shall they do it so; In which bank they'll put their dough; Whether they'll draw it out or no? I can't even guess, much less know, Then honestly and frankly tell them so. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HOW DO YOU KNOW? by EVE MERRIAM ENLIGHTENMENT by JOSEPHINE MILES PHYSIOLOGUS by JOSEPHINE MILES A COLLEGELANDS CATECHISM by PAUL MULDOON THE BEAR AND THE MAN by ROBERT BLY A PARIS BLACKBIRD by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR THE LIGHT THAT CAME TO LUCILLE CLIFTON by LUCILLE CLIFTON THE CLOUDS OF MAGELLAN (APHORISMS OF MR.
